Being a board member or investor in startups and scaleups is an important and challenging task. The company’s interest and long-term value creation can be difficult to keep in focus in the boardrooms when there is uncertainty about strategy, uncertainty about the next line of financing and confusion concerning the roles between founders, the board and investors.
Danish Business Angels have in collaboration with CBS Board Educations developed a course for business angels and other board members in startups and scaleups. The course focuses on models and tools that promote value-creating board work, and which are based on knowledge and experience of the board’s most important tasks, issues and dilemmas in startup and scaleup companies. The participants become part of the learning process with the faculty team consisting of professors, business angels, board members and founders, who inspire and challenge the participants based on case discussions from the startup and scaleup environment.
Studies show that companies that have professionalised board work and attention to role distribution and interaction between owners, board and management are able to grow faster, create higher returns and more relevant financing opportunities. It is a crucial competence that business angels and board members have knowledge of company law and corporate governance and build experience on value-creating board work.
This course has been developed by CBS Board Educations in close collaboration with Danish Business Angels and with experienced CBS professors, board members, business angels and founders as well as advisors from EY and Kromann Reumert.
